Reduce, reuse, recycle

Every year a huge quantity of waste is generated worldwide.  We are all responsible for such waste and ultimetly we must at least try to reduce the environmental impact it has on our planet.

To solve this problem we must apply the three R´s strategy:

  • REDUCE:  the main objective is to reduce the amount of waste generated in our homes, schools and offices.  Incentives should be given to factories to produce products with less packaging or at least use recycled material in the production process.  The durability of the products should also be taken into account as this determines the lifespan of the product.
  • REUSE: Waste which can be reused in its original form should be utilized where possible without recieving any processing, e.g if we consider prolonging the life of a product it makes more sense to buy it in packaging which we can make use of afterward, such as plastic tubs or metal boxes which can later be used for storage in the home or office.
  • RECYCLE: Recycling can be defined as the activity which uses waste products to produce new products.  Steel is the most recycled material on a global level and about 45% of new steel comes from old steel or scrap.  Cars which are deposited in authorized recycling Centres are one of the most important sources of steel recycling in the world as they can be converted into electric domestic appliances, hardware, other cars and many other products.

In order to ensure proper functioning of these strategies it is essential to have cooperation from the whole community. To achieve this there must be awareness campaigns launched in every country.

On a global scale Industries which are responsible for the recuperation of waste are requested to try to reduce the negative impact of their production processes.
